Day 3: 3DD

The final day of the 3DD rotation and using our sketchbooks as a foundation to create a bridge, this will helps us further understand for the afternoon portion of today which is creating a bridge using cardboard, bamboo sticks, rubber bands and masking tape.

In the afternoon our challenge was to create a bridge from two tables and that is able to avoid the 'boat' going through and a remote car going over the bridge. After we was then grouped in sevens and my group decided to sketch out their own ideas they wanted to show and think would work effectively and we discussed the function, balance, using the material efficiently and in conclusion we wanted to create a suspension bridge so two bamboo sticks that will be place at both tables and put rubber bands so the box structure would easily layer on top.

Halfway in making we decided to make an all cardboard bridge using two bamboo sticks that crossed under and we created triangle boxes to hold the bamboo sticks in place and then stuck onto the table by masking tape.
Here is the close up of one end of the bridge, the cardboard bridge had little flap at the edges to somehow help guide the remote car straight, it also gave a simple cut look to it. The triangular boxes gave a good detail to the bridge and Geoff personally thought it was interesting and like it.

The cardboard bridge couldn't itself properly because of the weight and so we used bamboo sticks to support it.

  1. I really like the your different paper manipulations to create the bridges, I think using the page its self to create shapes works really well, and the cut outs created from it add more interest to the look. Although the photographs are good, I feel that by using the light and angling the camera more you could have gotten some more dramatic shadows.
