Day 1: 3DD

Today was the first day of the 3DD rotation and we were instructed to create a squiggle to produce an outcome of a furniture that two people and a cat can sit, I took advantage of the shape I didn't put much thought or effort and came up with this outcome. By this exercise I learnt how random, mindless sketches and marks can create structure and products that was out of the box and a different way to approach generating ideas quick and easy.
{Squiggle - chair}

{ten dots - floor plan} The next task was to plant ten random dots anywhere we wanted and using this spots to create a floor plan of a two bedroom house, this task was interesting because it kind of reminded me of the game Sims where players is able to create their own house for their Sim. I found it fairly easy to do however there is many triangle rooms which I didn't like personally.

{favourite fruit - rabbit house} We were told to draw our favourite fruit and produce a house that a rabbit can live in, so I drawn two pineapples to act as rooms and following the initial shape and having a boxy structure on top. I can imagine this house to be in a pet shop because it was functional and would attract customers.

{two similiar random shapes - shoes} Here I drawn two random shapes that is curvy and looks likes drips and to transition them into shoes I drawn holes so its wearable and used felt tip and biro to add boldness and colour.

{two vertical lines, one horizonal line and one diagonal line - shopping centre floor plan} Here I randomly placed two veritcal lines, one horizonal line and diagonal line to invision a floor plan of a shopping centre, I kept in mind of the car park, toilets and access to tube/train station, I was inspired by the Westfield shopping centre.

{door number - bus stop} Using our door number as a base we were instructed to make a bus stop structure, I used the 1 4 as pillars and placed it in the middle and I drawn stick people to show the size proportion.

{favourite clothing - source of light(?)} I drawn a pair of shorts and made a desk lamp with two lights sources or it can be a ceiling lamp if it was upside down.

{a circle, a triangle and a square - type of transport} With my random placement of theses shapes I produced a 'heely' which is trainers with a wheel at the heel and so lifting the feet upwards it enables to roll and glide.

{shape/pattern of sole of shoes - jewellery} I thought the flatten circle will look different and unique on ears since we mostly see studs and daggling flowing earrings but never earrings that has a landscape format.

{person - animal} This task reminded me of Halloween which consist of people dressing up as characters, animals etc. I chose a jellyfish because of how it can be practical on the body and head and so drawn a dress and head piece and using the tenacles as a skirt.

{overall of the A1 sheets of all the sketches}

Using the idea of ur next task was to create a structure that will hold a water bottle 20cm of the table and using the medium of an A1 paper and a 'knuckle to elbow' amount of masking tape, I chosen to use my A1 paper of sketches because it already has colour and different materials used and so it will look unique and have a messy look.
My main focus was to make a strong base to support the tubes I was going to create after, I used an A4 paper and cut four holes into it and slipped the tubes inside. It was difficult to fit through because of the lack of masking tape I had, I tried to use little tape as much as possible and so the process of the structure kept falling apart.

Now that I had a base to keep the tube in place, I used another A4 paper at the bottom so it's easy to my structure and further support and enhance the base. I taped the corners and like how I can see the previous sketches inside the base and creates a nice interesting effect.

I made another small tube and attached it in the middle because it was the problematic area that needed enhancing, and I used the remaining paper and folded it to make it stronger and cut holes to feed in the tubes and connect everything in place.

FINAL OUTCOME

Does it really support a water bottle? Yes!
The final outcome was successful because it was able to hold the weight of the water bottle however it was actually 15cm height and so it was shorter than expected but nevertheless I am proud of achieving this because it was something that I wasn't exposed to before and it was interesting to do.

The afternoon we was challenged to create a piece of furniture that is able to hold body weight by sitting, standing etc. We are given 4 pieces of corrugated cardboard and masking trap. Initially I had an idea of two bean shaped cut outs and cut slits into them to attact with planks of cardboard inbetween, however due to the lack of time I cut half the structure and hoped that it would be successful, it was challenging because I got worried I wouldn't finish it in time.
