Day 3: Fashion & Textiles

The morning portion of the third day of the fashion and textiles rotation we was preparing to create our chosen garmet, I wanted to create a origami hat which I create a batch of origami which is threaded through a string and then I'll wrap the line of origami to my models head, here is the making of it.

Materials used:
  • Photocopies of red origami (repeated)
  • Hole puncher
  • String
I photocopied 9x9, 10x10 and 12x12 to add some difference to each origami and adds more variety.

FINISHED PRODUCT
When I finished my head piece I didn't really think of the structure of the head piece and how to maintain the same shape everytime so I decided to change it into a scarp/snood because it's easy to wrap around the neck. I am really happy with the outcome because it has a clamped out and busy looking feel to it, the red colour and sharpness to it give a bold statement in contrast of dark colours. Whilst making this it was tiring to make the origami but I work hard to work within the two hours we had.

After completing my outcome, our next task was to photograph our pieces keeping in mind to use natural lighting, expressions, pose, angle, setting etc. My main focus was to enhance the bold statement by taking advantage of Ravensbourne grey and white interior.

  1. I really like your final outcome, I think the contrast between the red and the white of the paper and the use of origami increases the interesting look of the piece. I however think I prefer it as a hair piece as I feel the angular look of the origami makes more of a statement while wrapped around the head.
